Training Opportunities

A wide range of racing and training opportunities will be available in the period leading up to WOC 2024, from international competition at Euromeeting 2023 and formal training camps to provision of maps for self-organised training. The provisional programme below will be developed in the coming months.

In addition to the events listed below, Scotland has a well-supported and attended Urban League: the Scottish Orienteering Association welcomes participation by international squads and athlete in all competitions.

Euromeeting 2023

Euromeeting 2023 is being organised by Forth Valley Orienteers (FVO) and will be held on October 13-15 in and around Stirling. Programme:

Friday 13 October – Dunblane

  • Mixed Sprint Relay, start mid-afternoon.
  • There will be a public race on similar courses afterwards, likely a ‘queue’ start with 15sec intervals and random allocation to different gaffles.

Saturday 14 October – University of Stirling

  • Knock-Out Sprint, Qualification race am, QF/SF/F pm.
  • The public race is an individual sprint, between qualification and finals.

Sunday 15 October – Stirling

  • Individual Sprint, morning, with 1 minute start interval, timings will depend on size of entry.
  • The public race is the Stirling City Race (urban event).

Mapping and course setting roles are filled by the WOC 2024 mappers and planners.

Edinburgh Big Weekend 2023

Edinburgh University Orienteering Club’s 2023 Big Weekend was held on 27-29 January 2023

Programme:

  • Friday (27): Fight with the Night (Stewart’s Melville College and Dean Village)
  • Saturday (28): City Race (Edinburgh South) and Ceilidh
  • Sunday (29): Seat classic race (Holyrood Park)

Scottish 6 Days 2023

The 2023 edition of the biennial Scottish Six Days is being held on the Moray coast between 30 July and 4 August, with competition areas including several former WOC venues: Culbin, Darnaway and Forres, which hosted the 2015 WOC sprint.

Sprint Scotland 2023

Sprint Scotland, organised by Masterplan Adventure, is a series of competitions aimed at both elite level and wider public participation.

Provisional information:

Saturday 2 September – Alloa

  • Knock-Out Sprint (exact format tbc)
  • Brand new map by a WOC24 mapper – mix of town centre and housing estate terrain
  • Planned by a WOC24 planner

Sunday 3 September – Falkirk

  • Sprint for elites, Urban for other seniors (UKUL, SOUL)
  • New map of the town centre, combined with existing maps
  • Planned by a WOC24 planner

Edinburgh Big Weekend 2024

In 2024 Edinburgh University Orienteering club will host a fully sprint focussed elite sprint weekend from 26-28 January, linked with a sprint training camp in and around Edinburgh 22-25 January including opportunities for head to head racing. More details will be provided in due course, but email euocbigweekend@gmail.com to register interest for you or your team.

Sprint Scotland 2024

Sprint Scotland 2024 will take place on 3/4 May 2014.

Glasgow City Race Weekend 2024

The Glasgow City Race Weekend organised by STAG will be held on 10-12 May 2024.

WOC 2024 Test Races

WOC test races will be held in the Edinburgh area on the weekend of 29/30 June 2024.
