Training and Racing

A wide range of racing and training opportunities are available leading up to WOC 2024, from international competition at Euromeeting 2023 and formal training camps to provision of maps for self-organised training.

Map files (in OCAD format) of relevant areas across central Scotland are available for release to national teams for self-organised training. Maps currently available:

Euromeeting 2023

Euromeeting 2023 was held on 13-15 October in and around Stirling, and was organised by Forth Valley Orienteers (FVO). Mapping and course setting roles were filled by the WOC 2024 mappers and planners.

  • Euromeeting: Mixed Sprint Relay.
  • Public race.

Saturday 14 October – University of Stirling

  • Euromeeting: Knock-out Sprint.
  • Public race (2 individual sprints).

Sunday 15 October – Stirling

  • Euromeeting Individual Sprint, morning.
  • Public race: Stirling City Race (urban event – part of the Scottish Urban Orienteering League).

Future events

Sprint Scotland 2024

Sprint Scotland 2024 will take place on 4-5 May 2024 and will feature 3 high-quality sprint races.

Glasgow City Race Weekend 2024

The Glasgow City Race Weekend organised by STAG will be held on 10-12 May 2024.

Friday 10 May: Indoor orienteering experience, Glasgow Caledonian University – details

Saturday 11 May: Regional event, Kelvingrove Park – details

Sunday 12 May: Glasgow City Race – details

Entries will open Friday 1st March 2024 on SI Entries

WOC 2024 Test Races

WOC test races will be held in the Edinburgh area on the weekend of 29-30 June 2024.

Provisional arrangements:

Saturday 29 June (afternoon): Wester Hailes (area already under WOC embargo)

Sprint race: courses – Men & Women.

Format: standard sprint courses with EWT of 13m 30s

Sunday 30 June (morning/lunchtime): King’s Buildings (area already under WOC embargo)

Knock-out Sprint: classes – Men & Women.

Format: no qualification round, 3 rounds of head-to-head racing for all with relegation and promotion (initial seeding, possibly by by IOF ranking)

Entry for these races (which must be by national teams) is likely to open in April 2024.

Other events

In addition to the events listed above, Scotland has a well-supported and attended Urban League: the Scottish Orienteering Association welcomes participation by international squads and athletes in all competitions.

Edinburgh University Orienteering Club’s 2023 Big Weekend was held on 27-29 January.

Scottish 6 Days 2023

The 2023 edition of the biennial Scottish Six Days was held on the Moray coast between 30 July and 4 August, with competition areas including several former WOC venues: Culbin, Darnaway and Forres, which hosted the 2015 WOC sprint.



Sprint Scotland 2023

Sprint Scotland, organised by Masterplan Adventure, took place on 2-3 September and included a Knock-out Sprint in Alloa and an Individual Sprint in Falkirk.

Edinburgh Big Weekend 2024

Edinburgh University Orienteering Club’s 2024 Big Weekend was held on 26-28 January.

EUOC also hosted an elite sprint training camp in and around Edinburgh from 22-26th January, including opportunities for head-to-head knock-out sprint training.

Big Weekend competitions included a 2×2 sprint relay, a night event and two individual sprint races.
