Training Opportunities

Scotland has an excellent track record for staging Sprint competitions, and in recent years these have included Race the Castles (including Edinburgh and Stirling) as well as WOC 2015 races in Nairn and Forres. Scotland has a well-supported and attended Scottish Orienteering Urban League, alongside races counting towards the UK Orienteering League. Sprint Scotland, organised by Masterplan Adventure, is a series of competitions aimed at both elite level and wider public participation.

Euromeeting 2023

We plan to host Euromeeting on October 13-15th 2023 in venues in and around Stirling.  WOC2024 is working closely with Forth Valley Orienteers (FVO) and Scottish Orienteering on the event.

Race formats will align to those in the Sprint WOC, and are likely to include;

  • Individual Sprint
  • Mixed Sprint Relay
  • Knock-Out Sprint

Embargoes are in place for Euromeeting 2023, and are detailed HERE.

There will be a set of open spectator races, so plenty of great opportunities to both run and watch some of the best athletes in the world!.

Training Venues

The ease of travel to Edinburgh and central Scotland means that opportunities for pre-WOC training are excellent. The Scottish Orienteering Association welcomes participation in their own competitions by international squads and athletes.

Several quality training venues not currently subject to embargoes are within easy reach of Edinburgh and include Glasgow, St Andrews and Dunfermline, the former Royal Capital of Scotland. Traffic-free training is possible at other university campus locations as well as new towns such as Livingston. Details of training maps e.g. downloads will be made available in due course.
